Old North Families Receive Support at Their Doorstep

On Tuesday, Old North teamed up with partner organizations to connect with the families of Old North Academy as they prepare for the first day of school by delivering back to school information and available community resource materials, right to their doorsteps.

In partnership with Ready Readers, HomeWorks!, Sophia's Project, and The Village, volunteers braved the summer heat to connect with families on multiple levels—from providing books to promote literacy and continued education, to fostering relationships with families. These partners, who are involved in the daily lives of students, play a critical role in preparing students for success in the classroom and beyond.

“We want to make connections with our families and let them know we care—and that school is starting soon,” Confluence Academies Director of Student Services & Family Involvement Dr. Leslie Muhammed said.

Dedicated staff and volunteers gathered early to organize supplies, consulted their list of over 100 students, and began reconnecting with students and families. They knocked on doors and delivered information about the first day of school, local resources available, a message from the principal, and their upcoming Back-to-School Bash on August 7th. The Back-to-School Bash event will offer free school supplies, haircuts, and access to community resources, making it a one-stop opportunity for families to get ready for the school year.

When families and students know you care about them, you can do a whole lot in bringing students along in their academic journey,Confluence Academies CEO Dr. Candice Carter-Oliver noted.

With many Confluence students impacted by the tornado, these efforts reflect Confluence doubling down on its mission to develop the whole child—prioritizing not only academic success, but also the overall well-being of students and families, inside and outside of school.
