Welcome Message to Families of Old North Academy

Welcome Message from Leslie Muhammad, Principal of Old North Academy
dr. muhsammad leslie old north

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I welcome back our scholars to the 21-22 school year.  I look forward to partnering with you to ensure all children are celebrated and supported.  Together, we will ensure that we maintain our tradition here at Old North Academy of a commitment to excellence, community, and scholars of our future.

We ask that you keep the lines of communication open as we work together to provide opportunities for our scholars to build a great future. We focus on four essential questions from Richard DuFour, the Professional Learning Community Guru, in mind. These questions will be the focus of our teaching and learning community:

-What are students expected to learn?
-How do you know if students are mastering material?
-What do you do when a student experiences difficulty in learning?
-What do you do when a student has mastered the learning outcomes prior to instruction?

As recipients of the Silver Award for Schoolwide Positive Behavior Intervention Support, our deliberate work to instill tools for self-regulation and emotional wellness will carry on through lessons by our teachers, counselor, and elementary learning specialist.

This marks my 15th year at Confluence Academies as a former parent and administrator, I am driven by the individual success and growth of every student.  I am excited to bring my passion, enthusiasm, and experience to cultivate the unique educational and extra-curricular programs that Old North Academy has to offer.

At the heart of my practice is building strong relationships with the staff, students, and families I serve. I look forward to listening to your ideas and vision for our school and collaborating with each of you to support our sense of community here at Old North Academy.  Where learning and cultivating minds in a safe school environment is a top priority.

I know many of our students and families are eagerly anticipating the full reopening of our campus as we are too at Old North Academy. I look forward to working in collaboration with each of you as we prepare our Confluence Academy Old North students to acquire the knowledge and skills to become productive members of society in a vastly changing world. Our resiliency through this pandemic has given us an opportunity to grow in a time of adversity. Together we can achieve much!

Educationally yours,

Dr. Leslie Muhammad
